New Season

It's good to be back to robotics! I've got a lot of ideas for the new game, and I'm really looking forward to learning more about programming. :)

I wasn't able to attend the first meeting, but the second one was awesome. I can already see our growth as a team this year, and we're only a week or so into it.

Hello

Allow me to introduce myself; my name is Tom. As of writing this, I am 17. This is going to be my third year on the team. I'm going to be writing this blog from now on, as the previous poster has graduated.

So, here is what's been happening recently:

  • We had a really cool presentation with the Girl Scouts of San Diego which went really well! We got to tell the kids about what we do, what FIRST is, and how they can get involved in FIRST. We let them score some batons with Frank 1.5(our robot), showed them NXT G and let them build with Legos. This was a really great experience for all of us on the team, and at the end of the presentation we got awesome thank you cards and cookies from the kids :D!

    • In other news, I've started taking baby steps in programming with RobotC, and so I think I'll be ready to start programming autonomous stuff before summer, which was my goal for starting. Hooray! I've been able to make simple programs to test sensors, run some of the sample programs to see what they're doing, and I have only sustained one injury so far!

    • This Tuesday, another team member and I will be presenting Frank 1.5 to the Board of Directors of our school. In addition to this, we're going to try to show it(Frank) at the annual school expo so we can tell other people in our school about FIRST and show them what it is that we do.

All in all, I think we're off to a great start this year!

    Let's review.

So we went to Vegas and it went very well, we managed to make it to the finals, which is a big win for us.  During our time we talked to lots of great teams and faced stiff competition, we also meet some cool people on other teams.  It's been an interesting season with peaks and valleys, all in all though it's been fun and went well, our design process and timing was great, we drove well, it all came together nicely and we worked out in the community too, hopefully next year will have even more fun and and excitement and we'll be able to kick the team up a notch and have cool fun making robots and hangin' out!

    ...Are you still there?

    Catching up.

So, we went to our first tournament and that went pretty well, we can hit our goals with %100 accuracy, needless to say this is a big advantage during competition, however, our arm, which was our only means picking up batons, broke, obviously this made things hard but we where able turn things and and did just fineWe also helped with a local FLL scrimmage as well as refing it.  And we are about to attend a scrimmage with a local, and awesome, team; Domo Arigato, this should be fun.
